Rio Ferdinand charged by FA over Twitter comments
The Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has been charged by the FA over a comment he made on Twitter.
Ferdinand laughed at a comment sent to him on the site by a follower who called Chelsea’s Ashley Cole “a choc ice” for giving evidence in support of his team-mate John Terry at Terry’s recent racism trial.
Terry was found not guilty of racially abusing Ferdinand’s brother Anton in a match at QPR’s Loftus Road last October, but last Friday he was charged by the FA for using “abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour” towards Anton Ferdinand, with a racial element also specified.
The FA statement on Rio Ferdinand’s charge read: “The allegation is that the player acted in a way which was improper and/or bought the game into disrepute by making comments which included a reference to ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race.”
The Manchester United player has until 4pm on Thursday to respond to the charge.

The game of two halves is one of football’s oldest clichés but would not be lost on Arsène Wenger after this game.
